Clearly, the need for a skilled labor pool is great in today's economy. Yet, many people with significant disabilities are struggling to find jobs with the majority of them unemployed or underemployed [6]. There is a need to develop strategies that can effectively empower these individuals to become part of the nation's labor force. This article describes one model project that used person-centered career plans, supported employment, and on-the-job assistive technology assessment and training to assist 21 individuals to become competitively employed. Customers worked an average of 15.66 months earning an average of $7,271 in total wages. They were hired by both small and large businesses to do a variety of tasks to include data entry, customer service, clerical assistance, as well as food prep. While the findings are preliminary, the results indicate that individuals with severe physical disabilities can maintain employment by combining supported employment and assistive technology within the workplace.

Juvenile justice employees' attitudes towards diverse impairments and their ideological and demographic predictors were examined. Supporting theories are that attitudes are comprised of ideological constructs and demographic variables and that there is a hierarchy of disability present in attitudes towards diverse disabilities. A cross-sectional design with quantitative measures was used. Results indicate that attitudes towards different types of disabilities vary considerably and are hierarchical in nature and that independent variables of demographics, social desirability in responding, and ideological constructs of social dominance orientation, normativism, and humanism have some effects on attitude outcomes, but not universally.

The aim of this study was to present the situation of women with disabilities on the labour market. Women with disabilities suffer from social and professional discrimination. They are discriminated because of their gender and disability. The Q1 Labour Force Participation Study (2013) showed that, in Poland, labour force participation for men and women with disabilities was 29.4% and 14.7%, respectively, while the unemployment rate was 16.1% for men and 17.2% for women. Quarterly information on employment, unemployment and economic inactivity was gathered from a Labour Force Survey in the first quarter of 2013; data from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy were also included. The participants of the survey were 15 years old or older; they were members of a sample household. The methodology was based on definitions recommended by the International Labour Office and Eurostat. It is important that women with disabilities are substantially less professionally active, while the unemployment rate for them is only slightly higher.

The purpose of this study was to examine access to and use of Internet by 97 physically disabled adolescents. Four main objectives were to: (1) explore frequency and nature of Internet use and the role of care givers, (2) compare these results with non-disabled adolescents, (3) explore associations between access to and use of Internet and adolescents variables, and (4) examine differences between care givers in the guidance of adolescents concerning their Internet use. Outcomes on a questionnaire were compared to those from a control group consisting of 1566 non-disabled adolescents. No differences in access to Internet between physically disabled and non-disabled adolescents were found. In addition, the most common online activities were similar for both groups. Physically disabled adolescents were more often warned by their parents about the risks of Internet and more often had rules at home than their non-disabled peers. Among the group of physically disabled adolescents, gender and environmental setting were found to be related to online activities. In addition, age was found to be related to the amount of rules at home. No associations were found between IQ and the access to and use of Internet. Finally, parents of physically disabled more often warn adolescents and more often check their use of Internet than care staff.

The problem in this study relates to the meaning of the phrase "healthy body" as a condition to be appointed as a notary according to the rules contained in Article 3 letter d of Law No. 2 of 2014 regarding work opportunities for people with disabilities who are physically healthy and have physical characteristics of people with disabilities a notary candidate who can be appointed as a notary as referred to in the Law on Notary Positions. The results of this study indicate that the meaning of "physically healthy" as a requirement to be appointed as a Notary is explained in Article 3 Letter D of the UUJN. A physically disabled person must have the same opportunity to be appointed as a Notary as other people, but the equality of opportunity must pay attention to his ability to carry out his duties as a Notary in order to maintain the credibility of the Notary Position. A person with disabilities can still be said to be in good health if he can still carry out his obligations as a Notary like a physically disabled person who can speak fluently, and can write or type well because he can still move his hands and fingers well but cannot walk properly because unable to move one part of his leg, then for a physically handicapped person such as these criteria still meet the benchmarks to be appointed as a notary.

Children with developmental or physical disabilities, many of whom face serious health-related conditions, also are affected by the current obesity crisis. Although evidence indicates that children with disabilities have a higher prevalence of obesity than do children without disabilities, little is known of the actual magnitude of the problem in this population. To address this concern, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) held a conference on obesity in children with intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities, bringing together scientists and practitioners in the fields of obesity and disability to foster collaboration, identify barriers to healthy weight status in populations with disabilities, propose avenues to solutions through research and practice, and develop a research agenda to address the problem. This article describes current knowledge about prevalence of obesity in this population, discusses factors influencing obesity risk, and summarizes recommendations for research presented at the conference. The attitudes of physical education (PE) teachers towards inclusion are critical to the successful provision of inclusive teaching for students with disabilities. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes of Saudi Arabian PE teachers towards the inclusion of students with disabilities in PE classes and the effect of sociodemographic variables (e.g., gender and length of teaching experience) on their attitudes towards inclusion. A total of 1,314 PE teachers (Mage = 41.09, SD = 9.40, females = 42.8%) completed the Arabic version of the Sentiments, Attitudes, and Concerns about Inclusive Education-Revised Scale (SACIE-R). Analyses found that, in general, PE teachers had moderately positive attitudes toward the inclusion of students with disabilities in PE lessons. A significant difference was found between the two genders in their attitudes toward inclusion. Specifically, female PE teachers demonstrated more positive attitudes toward inclusion than males. Multiple linear regression analysis, meanwhile, showed that the length of teaching experience and the experience of teaching a student with a disability were significant predictors of participants' attitudes toward inclusion. Our findings highlighted the importance of reconsidering the quality of PE teachers’ experiences and interactions with students with disabilities as a means to improving their attitudes, which in turn would translate into successful inclusion.

This study merged stress-and-coping research with the social model ofdisability to describe the most frequently experienced disability-related eventsexperienced by 19 parents with acquired physical disabilities and their adolescentchildren, and examined the relations between these events, severity of disability,and psychological adjustment. Parents and adolescents reported many more positivethan negative disability-related events, although parents reported significantly morenegative events than did their children. Frequency of parents' experienced negativedisability-related events correlated significantly with self-reported anxiety, depres-sion, and weaker feelings of parental self-efficacy, with their reports of adolescents'internalizing and externalizing problems, and with adolescents' self-reports ofdepression, anxiety, and lower self-esteem. Frequency of adolescents' negativedisability-related events correlated significantly with self-reported depression andlower self-esteem, and approached significance with self-reported anxiety. Therewere no significant associations between parents' positive events and self-reportedor adolescent adjustment. Total frequency of adolescents' positive events correlatedsignificantly with less parent-reported anxiety. There were several significantassociations between parental rating of severity of disability and number of physicallimitations with their and their children's adjustment. Implications for under-standing the daily effects of parental physical disability on parents and theiradolescent children are discussed, and recommendations are suggested for pre-vention interventions.

Physical activity is essential for women with physical disabilities. This review aims to identify the barriers they face in practicing sport. A systematic review was conducted using the PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science databases in January 2023, with an update in March 2023. The eligibility criteria used for inclusion were as follows. (i) Women with physical disabilities; (ii) women who engage in or want to engage in physical activities and/or sport, both adapted and non-adapted; (iii) identification of women’s barriers to such practice; (iv) research articles; and (v) papers written in English and published in peer-reviewed journals. The exclusion were as follows. (i) Women with illness, injury or transient physical activity difficulties; (ii) mention of rehabilitative physical activity; and (iii) results showing no differentiation in barrier types by gender. This review identified different barriers, grouped into eight types according to the differentiating factor, thus showing that disable people’s participation in physical activity is directly related to some specific barriers which seem to differ according to their gender. Therefore, the success of participation in physical activities depends not only on the user’s concern, but also on an inclusive social environment.
